The 1979 Trans Am marked the 10th anniversary of the Trans Am line, and Pontiac introduced a Special Edition to commemorate the occasion. The 10th Anniversary Limited Edition Trans Am featured a unique silver paint scheme with red, white, and blue decals, as well as distinctive interior details.

A 1979 Pontiac Trans Am was used in Steve McQueen's last movie, "The Hunter". McQueen played bounty hunter Ralph “Papa” Thorson, a larger-than-life person. The 1979 Pontiac Trans Am, black with a tan interior, which in the movie is stolen by bad guys and pursued by Steve McQueen in a combine harvester, the Trans Am has a exploding fate, and Steve McQueen captures the bad guys. I was later found as a "Barn Find" near the filming location in Kankakee, IL four decades later, surprisingly intact with only 1,300 miles.
